Mission Statement
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ventura County makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers ("Bigs") and children ("Littles"), ages 6 through 17, in communities across Ventura County. We develop positive relationships that have a direct and lasting effect on the lives on young people. The Big Brothers Big Sisters Mission is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever. The Big Brothers Big Sisters Vision is that all children achieve success in life.
About This Cause
What’s a Big and Little to do together? Each match is unique. Getting together doesn’t require a special occasion or expensive activity—just a few hours every week doing things the Little and Big already enjoy, whether its hiking, playing sports, reading a favorite book, or sharing dreams for the future. BBSVC's Core Programs: TRADITIONAL MENTORING PROGRAM (Community-Based) (Bigs must be 21 years old or older) Bigs and Littles set their own schedules and meet up on a consistent basis. Bigs open the doors to new social, educational, and recreational experiences. One-to-one mentoring between a child facing adversity and a Big volunteer can improve the trajectory of a child's life. LUNCH BUDDIES (Site-Based) (Bigs must be 18 years old or older) As a Lunch Buddy, Bigs are matched with a child at their choice of Chavez (Oxnard) or Montalvo (Ventura) Elementary Schools. Over the course of the school year, Bigs spend lunch recess with their Little each week on the day that best fits their schedule. BIG UNIVERSITY (Site-Based) (Bigs must be 18 years old or older) Our newest program, where college-age youth can become weekend activity mentors to a child in their community! Keep posted as we unveil this program for Fall 2015 semester at CLU!
