Mission Statement

Robin’s Hope empowers individuals to thrive through a safe, peer-run community that provides connection, inspires hope, and promotes resilience.

About This Cause

Robin’s Hope was born out of the need for safety, community, and connection. Each of our groups are designed to offer opportunity for healing, hope, social support and resilience building. These groups have a unique purpose and importance. Everyone is welcome as trauma impacts everyone. Trauma knows no bounds! The people who walk through our doors are not happy with something either from their past or their current life. Our goal at Robin’s Hope is to offer a place where people can bring down the mask, be real, and be honest about life’s struggles. This vulnerability can be difficult, but offers a powerful form of connection. Our hope is that participants can feel like they have not just one supportive other in their lives, but a community. We believe that healing our nation and our world starts with healing ourselves. Our goal at Robin's Hope is to improve a participant's daily life by increasing his/her ability to utilize resilience skills, decreasing his/her experienced trauma symptoms and increasing his/her perceived social support. Participants frequently comment on how much Robin's Hope has helped them. We look forward to continuing to grow our ability to help people heal from psychological trauma. Robin's Hope takes its project approach from a variety of sources. Patterning its group format from local peer run centers, the founding staff wished to draw from the strength of the peer run model that offers a variety of groups to attendees so that they may choose which groups are of interest or benefit to them. This allows each attendee to exercise choice and to have a voice in what types of groups they would like to see be offered at the program. Robin's Hope also draws strongly from recent research regarding neuroscience, resilience, mindfulness, somatic processing, and other trauma treatments to offer a variety of avenues to healing for each person. As no one tool works for every individual, the goal is to offer a variety of healing experiences so that each participant may experiment with options to find the best route for his or her own healing journey. Robin's Hope also draws from the self-help group model, which reflects that helping others is a natural progression of healing and helps to consolidate the gains of the healing journey. Robin's Hope, therefore, encourages participants to facilitate groups as they are comfortable and encourages the use of formal and informal peer support. This is the only trauma-focused program in Virginia that utilizes a blend of clinical skill and lived experience. It is also unique in its focus on building resilience skills, which not only help the healing process, but improve long-term global functioning (Harvard.edu). This healing would be expected to have a ripple effect into the lives of the families of participants as well.
