About This Cause
The Boys & Girls Clubs of the San Gorgonio Pass was founded in 2005 by current CEO Amy Herr and fellow community member Barbara Hanna. As Amy Herr realized the lack of programs available for her own children and learning the need of their friends through classroom volunteer work, she set out to find a program that would fill the vast need of young people in the Pass Area. As Amy Herr had the means to give her children experiences despite lack of programs, she knew that their friends, classmates and young people of the community who were not socially-economically stable would never have the chance to have the experience and support they deserved. After studying many different organizations, Boys & Girls Clubs stood out over the others, as they focused on the whole child, with core programs in Education, The Arts, Health & Wellness, Character & Leadership and Sports & Recreation. Support was garnered quickly and in 2006 the Club opened its doors at its first location, Hoffer Elementary. The Club now serves 750 members daily at 12 clubs in Cabazon, Banning, Beaumont and Yucaipa. All locations are on school campuses, however our Teen Center, opened in 2016, is the Club’s first stand-alone building. The Club, serving members from kindergarten through their 18th year, fills a huge void in our community, giving families affordable access to extra-curricular activities, support, homework help among other services. Parents now have a safe place for their kids to grow and flourish while the work or are unable to provide these on their own. The Club offers age appropriate, high yield activities daily, that are developed both nationally and on a local level to complement our communities’ specific needs. The Club is open each day after school, but opens all day during special breaks and summer. During the pandemic, the Club stayed open in pods from 7am-6pm daily to offer school support and safe afterschool activities. The Club has an excellent relationship with the school districts, cities and other agencies due to our commitment to children and our community. We are often the go to reference when new community members, social workers, teachers and counselors are looking for support for their children. Additionally, the Club works diligently to provide a healthy workspace for our employees, with opportunities to move up, feel good about what they are doing and gain meaningful experience that will offer future success. The Club also works to provide employment opportunities to our recently graduated teens, allowing them to continue to grow with us, while still being supported through their early endeavors. The Club gives meaningful employment to 50 community members, with plans to continue growth with quality.
