Mission Statement

The Language Conservancy (TLC) is dedicated to rescuing the world's ever-increasing number of endangered languages, restoring them to stability and health, and safeguarding them for future generations.

About This Cause

The Language Conservancy’s (TLC) mission is to preserve the maximum number of endangered languages in the Americas and the world. We believe that all languages have an inherent right to exist—that they are fundamental and irreplaceable facets of a people’s culture and humanity’s linguistic heritage. TLC is dedicated to restoring endangered languages to stability and health, and to documenting the benefits of language recovery to indigenous communities and individuals. TLC also increases international public awareness of language loss and recovery, and supports indigenous tribes committed to revitalizing their own languages. TLC has been a leader in providing support to Education Departments and Native American tribes that are working to restore their languages. Founded in 2005, TLC provides award-winning materials and highly regarded training in language teaching methods nationwide. Providing support to over 15 Native American languages, TLC has created hundreds of distinct Native language curricular materials including dictionaries, grammars, textbooks, children’s books, mobile apps, keyboards, audio series, cartoons, and more. Further, TLC has provided both initial and ongoing support to Native communities who have founded 2 Native-language immersion schools, and has secured funding for 2 more. Overall, The Language Conservancy serves over 200,000 tribal members, and hundreds of school systems across 10 states.
