Mission Statement

Burdened by an increasing awareness of the intense challenges he saw in the lives of other leaders, Morris Dirks founded SoulFormation in 2006. As a nonprofit organization, SoulFormation is committed to fostering the spiritual and emotional health of Christian leaders in ministry.

About This Cause

Since 2006, SoulFormation has come alongside leaders in nearly every area of ministry and nonprofit work. We have served those in the health care field such as emergency room physicians and nurses as well as those in nonprofit work such as pastors, worship leaders, executive directors, case workers and program directors. We work with state and county public servants in foster care and youth detention as well as professors, missionaries and many more. SoulFormation's unique strategy is to work with those who are already in leadership, regardless of mission. By supporting and strengthening leaders, SoulFormation is able to multiply impact across a vast range of nonprofit work. When those leaders return to their various contexts, they return reinvigorated, renewed and supported by the relationships they have built among other leaders involved in nonprofit work. SoulFormation offers two main programs: The Academy of Spiritual Formation and The School of Spiritual Direction. Designed to meet leaders who are in full-time service, these programs are centered around a series of retreats. The Academy of Spiritual Formation is a place for leaders who sense an acute need to deepen the care of their own souls. It is our hope to lead them to that which - until now - they may have only been able to recommend to others. That is, experiential union with Christ. We believe that leaders who make this journey return to ministry with greater effectiveness and sustainability. The School of Spiritual Direction offers advanced teaching, direct engagement in spiritual direction, regular peer interaction in triads, and individual supervision. Altogether, these combine to give participants solid academic teaching as well as practical experience. SoulFormation also offers programs such as The 19th Annotation, centered around the teachings of St. Ignatius; as well as Space for God retreats.
