Mission Statement
Improve the quality of life for persons with physical disabilities through advocacy and direct services to access integrative therapies. A mission that offers wellness and disability to co-exist.
About This Cause
The Chanda foundation was established in 2005 with the vision to create change policy to influence Medicaid to fund integrative therapies because of its cost-effectiveness. In 2007, the organization became official when granted 501c3 tax exempt status. With the help of integrative therapies through the support of her sister and volunteer providers, Chanda Hinton Leichtle, founder and Executive Director of The Chanda Plan Foundation saw a need to improve her own wellness due to chronic health complications she experienced from her own spinal cord injury. In addition to her complications, she saw the same need to help others and created The Chanda Plan Foundation. Every day The Chanda Plan foundation is honor to witness the endless desire for wellness through its participants and the passion of its staff, board, volunteers and donors, who make the possibility for disability and wellness coexist. We accomplish this through systemic change and director services. Systemic Change: The Chanda Plan Foundation advocates for policy change on a state and federal level. In 2009, our advocacy effects passed Colorado legislation, mandating that Colorado Medicaid do a three-year pilot program (SCI Waiver) to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of acupuncture, massage and chiropractic for persons with spinal cord injuries between 2012-2015. On a federal level, The Chanda Plan Foundation has engaged in policy work with a community liaison to help initiate model legislation similar to our Colorado Medicaid pilot, but in other states. We have partnered with the State Pain Policy Advocacy Network (SSPAN), program of the American Academy of Pain Management to accomplish this. Direct Services: The Chanda Plan Foundation offers direct services in two ways. (1) Location-Based (Denver Metro Area) and (2) Provider-Based (Nationwide), so access to integrative therapies for individuals with physical disabilities is possible. Within our Director Services, we focus on specific populations (i.e. spinal cord injury, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, etc.) and integrative therapies (i.e. acupuncture, massage, chiropractic, etc.) that change over time. Access to our services are based on individual eligible including, but not limited to: income, status of health, etc. Wellness is our top priority and individuals who are eligible, get to access these services at no charge due to their financials hardship.
