Mission Statement
“MAPS Community Care Services” are a set of non-religious, non-denominational community focused services, benefitting the broader communities in the greater Seattle area, and disbursed by the directors, officers and members of Redmond-based Muslim Association of Puget Sound.
About This Cause
Such services include but are not limited to: 1. Charity Services: a. Monetary support to the poor and needy b. Nutriment and food support to the malnourished and hungry c. Housing and shelter support to the uprooted and homeless d. Travel support to the displaced and wayfarer 2. Education Services: a. Short-term courses: i. English as a Second Language (ESL) courses ii. Second language classes, including Arabic, French, Turkish, Urdu, etc. iii. History classes, including history of civilizations, geographical regions, countries, sciences, etc. iv. Examination preparatory courses, including SAT, MCAT, etc., v. Computer literacy, ranging from teaching basic computer use to complete programming courses vi. Hands-on courses, ranging from lego construction to electronic circuitry to robotics vii. Skills development courses, including Leadership courses, negotiation courses, public speech/Toastmaster classes, etc. viii. Entrepreneurship courses, relating to training on conceptualizing, developing, implementing, executing and monetizing small business ideas ix. Vocational training, including the use of tools, processes, best practices, etc. to improve on-the-job skills x. Career advancement classes, including topic general and industry specific trainings xi. Job placement classes, including job search, resume building, interview preparation, etc. xii. Nutrition and cooking courses, including education on diet, calorie-intake, food preparation, etc. xiii. Health and care courses, including classes on preventive health, symptom diagnostics, treatment, etc. b. Pre-school Services: i. Part-time and/or full-time pre-kindergarten and pre-school activities for kids below the age of 5 ii. Mom and Tot programs where toddlers, accompanied by one parent, are taught basic skills iii. Enrichment programs and after-school activities for toddlers iv. Summer camps for toddlers c. Elementary School Services: i. Part-time and/or full-time elementary school activities for kids aged 5 to 15 ii. Enrichment programs and after-school activities for elementary students iii. Summer camps for elementary students 3. Orphan Services a. Services specifically designed to cater and support orphans and displaced kids b. Such services include support, counseling and adoption services 4. Women’s Services a. Services specifically designed to cater and support disadvantaged women b. Such services include empowerment programs, domestic abuse prevention, etc. 5. Elderly Services: a. Services specifically designed to cater and support the old and elderly b. Such services include retirement home and hospice visits, in-home care, personal care, transportation assistance, etc. 6. Youth Services: a. Services specifically designed to cater and support the youth, age 10 to 18 b. Such services include assistance to bridge the teenage years through positive and reinforcing activities, e.g., through community engagement, college preparations, leaders clubs, etc. 7. Disabled Services: a. Services specifically designed to cater and support the physically challenged and handicapped b. Such services include in-home care, personal care, transportation assistance, etc. 8. Marriage & Family Services: a. Services specifically designed to enable adult members to find suitable mates for the end purpose of getting married and establishing stable homes b. Services to counsel new couples to lead successful married life c. Services to counsel couples seeking separations and divorce d. Services to counsel children of divorcing parents 9. Health Services: a. Professionally trained medical practitioners advise on, screen for and treat health issues, symptoms, diseases through a variety of health clinics b. Such clinics include: preventive care clinics, vaccination clinics, adult care clinics, women’s care clinics, children care clinics, teen clinics, dental clinics, family planning clinics and maternity support clinics 10. Counseling and Therapy Services: a. Dispensed by a trained professional, services related to art therapy, drama therapy, clinical mental health counseling and couple & family therapy 11. Rehab Services a. Programs designed to decrease and eliminate alcohol, tobacco and substance abuse b. Programs designed to counsel such patients 12. Detainee Services a. Programs designed to counsel incarcerated members of local jails b. Programs designed to reintegrate such members into society 13. Disaster Relief Services: a. Programs designed to respond to emergencies b. Programs designed to assist in the clean-up and reconstruction right after such disasters c. Programs designed to enable long-term recovery after such disasters 14. Funeral Services a. Services related to giving the deceased a respectable burial b. Such services include preparation of the deceased body for burial, purchasing of lots for burial and interment of the body c. Services also extend to counseling and condolement to family and friends of the deceased 15. Community-building Services: a. Events to build and strengthen relationships and bonds among various groups within the local and global community b. Such groups include cultural, political, educational, etc. groups c. Such events include meet-and-greet, lunch-and-learn, open houses, etc. events 16. Cultural Services a. Services exposing the community to cultures from other groups within the United States b. Services exposing the community to cultures from other groups outside of the United States c. Such services include International Food festivals, cultural displays and shows, etc. 17. Sport & Fitness Services a. Programs specifically designed to encourage fitness and healthy living b. Such programs include hosting gym activities, sports trainings, sporting competitions and events, etc. c. Such programs include community activities centered around major national and international sporting events 18. Legal care a. Programs specifically designed to fulfil the legal needs of those who cannot afford professional legal service b. These include professional counsel and representation in various fields, including: i. Consumer issues (including bankruptcy, debt and unfair collection) ii. Estate planning (including wills) iii. Housing issues (including evictions and disputes) iv. Family law (including divorce, child support, custody), and, v. Civil and criminal legal advice 19. Investor Services/Microfinance a. Programs specifically designed to assist the community in investments in small and personal businesses with the goal of achieving income independence b. Such programs include supporting microfinance projects
