Every student who graduates from high school in Montgomery County deserves the opportunity to complete college or technical school regardless of his or her family income. CollegeTracks changes lives and communities by giving Montgomery County’s low-income, first-generation-to-college students the chance to go to colleges where they can succeed with enough financial aid and continued support to help them graduate.
About This Cause
CollegeTracks changes lives and communities by giving low-income, first-generation-to-college students the chance to go to college with enough financial aid and continuing support to help them attain the degrees they seek. We believe that every student deserves a path to prosperity, regardless of his or her family income and background. We also know that the strength of our region’s economy relies on developing a well-educated workforce. Higher education is the only way for families to break the cycle of poverty. When more high school graduates attend college, both individuals and their families see higher earnings, better health, more opportunity, and increased socioeconomic mobility. The need for college access and success services in Montgomery County, Maryland is large and growing. Currently, 66% of all jobs in Maryland require postsecondary education. In Montgomery County, however, an alarming number of minority and low-income high school graduates are not reaching postsecondary education simply because they have no one to help them through the admissions and financial aid processes, and no one to turn to when financial, social, and academic issues arise at college. CollegeTracks fills that gap, leveling the playing field in both high school and college, and ensuring that students from all backgrounds get the opportunity to reach higher education, earn a post-secondary degree, and provide the economic stability for their families that they deserve.
