About This Cause

The WellMed Charitable Foundation was established to support senior adults and their caregivers in our community, with a special emphasis on wellness, prevention and living with chronic illness. CAREGIVER PROGRAMS The Foundation has grown to become one of the leaders in the country in caregiver services. Focusing on evidence-based programs, the Foundation is working with clinicians to identify and support family caregivers of to assist them in improving communication with physicians, managing their own health, increasing their knowledge of resources in the community and learning techniques to decrease stress and depression. CAREGIVER SOS These caregiver resources centers offer complimentary programs designed to support family caregivers on their caregiving journey, including wellness activities, information, support and education. Caregiver SOS centers are staffed by a knowledgeable, caring caregiver specialist who helps family members and friends who are caring for a loved one with Alzheimer's disease or dementia, as well as other chronic conditions such as stroke, cancer, diabetes, chronic lung disease and heart disease. CAREGIVER TELECONNECTION The Caregiver Teleconnection is a free, safe and confidential program that uses the telephone to connect family caregivers with trusted professionals and other caregivers. "Tele-learning" sessions are available on a variety of topics and feature physicians, attorneys, social workers and other experts with information of interest to caregivers. These group sessions last about one hour and may be accessed from anywhere using the telephone: no need to get dressed up, find transportation or get a sitter. SENIOR CENTERS The WellMed Charitable Foundation operates senior community centers with nationally recognized programs. These centers are free to seniors age 60 and over, and their caregivers. The Foundation is dedicated to improving the health and quality of life of seniors through physical activity, education, social and recreational activities and evidence-based health promotion programs. WE CARE VOLUNTEER PROGRAM Caregiver SOS Centers and Foundation Senior Centers are supported by teams of Senior Volunteers. These groups of energetic seniors perform a wide variety of responsibilities including teaching computer classes, organizing craft groups and leading Zumba, Salsa and line dancing classes. WellMed employees and their family members generously support the community through volunteer activities. Volunteer teams hold "work days" with our non-profit partners to build access ramps for the homes of seniors and the disabled, donate blood, support local Food Banks, participate in wellness walks/runs and many other service initiatives. SUPPORT FOR LOCAL CHARITIES IN WELLMED COMMUNITIES In the past three years, the WellMed Charitable Foundation has contributed over $3 million to community non-profit partners. Each year, WellMed employees select charities of special significance to them, to be included in our annual GIVE (Generous Individuals Value Everyone) campaign. Many of these charities are small, local non-profits, serving providing services for seniors, caregivers and are consistent with the Foundation mission.
