Mission Statement
Oakland Soccer Club is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in Oakland, California, with the mission of resourcing high-quality opportunities for underserved youth to help advance and meet their potential - in soccer and life. We challenge the inadequate systems of youth soccer development to disrupt the status quo of pay-to-play and work to remove barriers, restrictions, and environments of discrimination that fail our talented and deserving Oakland youth. Our work provides mentorship, coaching, and skill development to help strengthen the resilience and power of the Oakland soccer community and promote core civic values of inclusion, diversity, and respect. We envision affordable and accessible conditions for youth to develop lifelong skills and healthy learning habits through soccer - no matter their economic or social background.
About This Cause
Oakland Soccer Club (OSC) is a volunteer-led youth soccer organization that was founded in 1974 to serve the diverse communities of Oakland that lacked access to high-quality, enriching team soccer. Over nearly 50 years, OSC has administered a multi-team soccer program that promotes the athletic and personal development of youth and young adults from low-income and/or underserved areas (ages 5-19). Uniquely modeled after European-style training academies, Oakland Soccer Club's 20+ teams exist in a development pathway that is designed to resource and mentor each youth participant to fulfill their athletic and personal potential.
