Mission Statement

NESI is a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to the philosophy and teachings of Dr. Shinichi Suzuki to nurture each student's character through the beauty of music and the pursuit of excellence, and through character building, further his vision for world peace.

About This Cause

The New England Suzuki Institute provides musical immersion for children and their families on the campus of St. Joseph's College in Standish for a week for the last 30 summers. Based upon the teaching method of Dr. Shinichi Suzuki, children learn to play the way they learn to speak; by immersion in sound, repetition of musical patterns, and playing by ear before they learn to read. We offer lessons on violin, viola, cello, piano and classical guitar to students pre-school through high school age. The Suzuki Philosophy provides us with a unique framework to allow for learning and connections to happen between students, students and parents, and the communities of families who participate. Creating shared experiences for families with the guidance of trained and skilled teachers, NESI aims to nurture the beautiful character of every participant using music and music instruction as the medium to achieve this goal. Our camp runs for one week - the last week of June - but our organization works all year to provide the programming and funding for this event with a special eye to keeping the cost of the week manageable for most families. We typically support 10-12 students with scholarships each year and need to raise about $5000.00 annually to accomplish that.
