Mission Statement
Medhen Orphan Relief Effort (M.O.R.E.) is a 501c(3) non-profit organization and the primary sponsor of the Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) and Orphans and Vulnerable Youth (OVY) Programs administered by the Medhen Social Center in one of the most impoverished areas in the world, just outside center city Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Under the vision and stewardship of Sister Senkenesh, and with M.O.R.E. underwriting the costs, these programs deliver a vast array of essential health, nutritional, and educational related services to those most in need. Our mission is to... - Respond to the growing orphan crisis in the community that the programs serve by providing children with a loving home - Ensure that the orphaned and vulnerable children have access to education, healthcare, medicine, food, nutritional supplements, clothing, shelter, and emotional and social/psycho-spiritual support as part of the holistic approach to their well-being - Provide each child with access to vocational training or advanced education - Give caretakers training and financial support for their role in helping to raise the children, and provide the means for maintaining a sustained livelihood - Feed the children’s hearts and spirits as well as their bodies through social activities ~ Giving hope…..to M.O.R.E. children ~
About This Cause
We support programs focused on orphans and vulnerable children and youth of the Medhen Social Center, located in one of the most impoverished areas in the world outside of city center Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. M.O.R.E. is the principal donor for the care and support for the Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) Program and Orphans and Vulnerable Youth (OVY) Program. The primary objective is to ensure the sustained well-being of the children by increasing the ability of their families and caregivers to respond to their needs through the holistic support network and targeted services provided through the Medhen Social Center. ~450 children enrolled Primary ages 3 - 21 years old ~220 parents and/or caregivers participating M.O.R.E. provides direct project personnel costs Applicable salaries for staff and social workers Clothing allowance For qualified beneficiaries, M.O.R.E. provides: House rent allowance for, bed, mattress, blanket and linen support, clothing and shoes, and hygiene products Training and financial support related to Economic Empowerment / Income Generation Activities such as Urban Agriculture, Catering Services, Beauty Care, Entrepreneurial / Cottage Industries, and many others - with many running very successful businesses - Business skills training, Work readiness assessment, Startup capital for newly established cooperatives M.O.R.E. is the principal donor for the Orphans and Vulnerable Youth (OVY) Program. The primary objective of OVY is to ensure the sustained well-being of the youth as they age through adolescence into adulthood. Continued services from the OVC program are provided, along with age-appropriate advice and counseling, as well as offering life skill training through technical or vocational education, in addition to preparation and ongoing support for those qualified to advance to/through College & University studies. To date, there have been countless success stories involving beneficiaries graduating from University with degrees ranging from Engineering, Agriculture, Aerospace (Airline Pilot), Information Technology (IT), Teaching, and many others. Prior to M.O.R.E.'s involvement, as recently as 8 years ago, no one from the community served by the Medhen Social Center had attended University
