Mission Statement
Tech Goes Home's mission is to close the digital divide.
About This Cause
Tech Goes Home (TGH)’s proven approach to advancing digital equity is grounded in the three essential pillars of digital access: skills, hardware, and connectivity. In our digital inclusion programs, each family or individual completes 15 hours of digital skills training, earning a computer or tablet, and, if needed, a year-long internet connection. With the tools and skills they gain through our program, graduates are prepared to leverage technology in whatever way will benefit them most. Our digital literacy training focuses on fundamental skills needed to complete homework assignments, apply for jobs, communicate with friends and family, utilize vital community resources, access telehealth, and use the internet safely and responsibly. We offer programs for adult community members, as well as family-based intergenerational programs, which engage students and their caregivers together to learn digital skills as a team. TGH uses a community-based train-the-trainer program model to offer culturally-responsive digital skills courses in communities throughout our service area. Courses are taught by librarians, community center staff, and service providers who are leaders in the communities where they offer the digital skills training. Instructors recruit families and adults in their communities and select TGH curriculum based on the specific needs and goals of their learners. Courses are designed to be accessible and responsive to the needs of learners who enroll; nearly 4 in 10 courses are taught bilingually or in a language other than English. By partnering with more than 160 local community partners, TGH amplifies existing work that addresses education, employment, and health. Our programs offer learners the opportunity to form strong, lasting relationships with the instructors and community organizations that offer TGH programming. Our flexible program model minimizes costs while allowing us to reach thousands of learners with community-based, culturally-responsive programming each year across an expanding geographic service area. In the past five years alone, more than 30,000 learners have graduated from TGH programs, and we have distributed more than 22,000 new computers and tablets. Together we will innovate, advocate, and collaborate to ensure every individual has the tools, access, and support to thrive in the digital world. Together we will close the digital divide.
