About This Cause
Running Start is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that trains young women to run for political office. Over the past 13 years, Running Start has trained more than 17,500 young women. In the United States, less than one in four elected leaders are women, even though when women run they win at the same rates as men. But, there aren't enough women running. And although there are a variety of internal and external barriers that discourage women from running, the biggest barrier is lack of confidence. So, Running Start trains young women at a time when research shows their political confidence is eroding. Running Start's ten programs give young women the skills and confidence they need to run for office and win!
