Mission Statement
Washington Women for Climate Action Now (WashingtonWomenCAN) engages and empowers women to lead equitable climate action across Washington State. We mobilize women to act on climate, locally and statewide, and at all levels of government. Through sustained, targeted, and creative action, we fuel our women’s climate movement to combat the impacts of carbon pollution and climate change in all of Washington's diverse communities.

Washington Women for Climate Action Now (WashingtonWomenCAN) engages and empowers women to lead equitable climate action across Washington State. We mobilize women to act on climate, locally and statewide, and at all levels of government. Through sustained, targeted, and creative action, we fuel our women’s climate movement to combat the impacts of carbon pollution and climate change in all of Washington's diverse communities. WashingtonWomenCAN empowers women to lead equitable climate action by: • Fueling the WOMEN’S CLIMATE MOVEMENT in Washington and beyond, and • Empowering women representing the geographic, economic, and racial diversity of Washington to lead on climate action in their own communities, often in places long ignored by traditional environmental groups, through the WOMEN TALK CLIMATE initiative. WOMEN’S CLIMATE MOVEMENT: WashingtonWomenCAN mobilizes Washington’s women to fight for equitable climate action in our state. Every new woman we bring into the climate movement brings us one step closer to a winning strategy for robust climate policy in town councils, public utilities, the state legislature, and on the ballot. We fuel our women’s climate movement by: • Representing women’s specific interests at public/government climate forums; • Providing training/coaching on climate science/policy/justice, including gender equity; • Framing polling and social media campaigns on gender and climate issues; • Testing messaging and polling to increase women’s engagement. • Building community through lobby days, special events, house-parties, and online platforms; • Providing support through toolkits, blogs, action alerts, and coaching; • Using gender equity lens as means to explore disproportionate impacts by race, nationality, income, age, and political geography; • Building community through special events, house parties, and social media; • Providing support through toolkits, blogs, action alerts, and coaching on climate issues, including equity issues; • Partnering with leading climate groups, e.g., 100% clean energy alliance; Alliance for Jobs & Clean Energy (steering committee); Climate Reality Project; Climate Solutions (shared office space and advocacy); Power Past Coal; Stand Up To Oil.
