About This Cause
The Bay Area Kayak Polo Club (also know as the Golden Gate Breakers) was founded in the 90's by Tim Johnson, who brought the sport over from the UK. The Rhinos youth kayak polo team was founded in 2013 by coaches Peter Hargreaves and Alexander Izmailov. The Rhinos participated in the 2013 US Nationals in Mountain View, CA, the 2014 Canadian Nationals in Edmonton, Alberta, the 2016 US Nationals in Los Angeles and the 2019 US Nationals in Austin, Texas. The Rhinos team operates on a sliding scale fee in order to be accessible to youth of different economic means. Our organization especially encourages youth of color and girls to participate in the sport.
