Mission Statement
WomenRising assists women and their families to achieve self-sufficiency and live safe, productive and fulfilling lives, through social services, economic development, and advocacy services.
About This Cause
WomenRising provides a wide array of social service and workforce development programs for over 10,000 individuals annually. There are four different departments within the organization: Village of Families, Youth and Family Services, Domestic Violence, and Community Economic Development. Village of Families This program provides 22 chronically homeless families with permanent housing and wraparound services—providing a team of individuals who collaboratively develop an individualized plan of care, implement this plan, and evaluate success over time. Youth and Family Services This program supplies an array of family services including: counseling for families and individuals, crisis intervention/management, supervised visitation for children placed outside the home, family reunification, child and youth development, and parenting training. Domestic Violence As the state-designated provider of Domestic Violence Services, WomenRising operates the only domestic violence shelter in Hudson County. That means, for our state’s most densely populated and fastest growing county, we are the only line of defense for women seeking counseling and housing assistance. We offer a 24-hour hotline, deliver counseling for women and children, conduct training for police departments and volunteers, hold information sessions for schools and civic groups, and provide court advocacy. Community and Economic Development This program offers a number of job readiness and training programs including: Community Partnership in Hotel Employment and Transportation, Logistics and Distribution Employment. This department also runs a Resource and Employment Center, which offers assistance to job seekers such as free computer banks, resume building sessions, and mock interview trials. The ultimate objective of WomenRising’s programs is to empower women toward self-sufficiency and help them live safe, productive, and fulfilling lives. Our dedicated staff work with individual clients to help them learn to advocate for themselves, form positive family relationships, build strong linkages to support systems, and gain the work and job readiness skills needed to secure employment and stand on their own.
