Martin Luther King Youth Center After School Program –Bridgewater, Somerset County. Summary: Our Program: Martin Luther King Youth Center provides a well-supervised After School and a Summer Camp program for children that mostly come from needy low-income families who otherwise would not have been able to receive appropriate individualized tutorial service. The children that are served are between the ages of 5 through 14. Martin Luther King Youth Center has been in existence since 1971 in Somerset County and is well recognized by the schools and the community. The center successfully provides a facility where they are able to engage in constructive supervised activities, recreation, arts and crafts, full day summer camp, field trips and extensive tutoring under the guidance of certified teachers and volunteers who are able to provide tutorial services on a one to one basis to children in need of extra help. The center also provides meals, pick up and drop off transportation services for children. The After School Program: The center provides a comprehensive After School & Full day Summer Camp Program for children 5 through 14 years that offers pick up at the schools, a snack, tutoring, activities and experiences that encourage them to think, reason, question and experiment. The center also provides a balanced dinner and a drop off service to their homes in the evening. Our priority is to address the child’s educational, cultural, social, physical, nutritional and mental needs in a safe and healthy environment for children from all ethnic backgrounds. The daily schedule includes tutoring & homework assistance Monday through Thursday and once the homework is completed there is free play at the playground. On Fridays when they do not have any homework, we do extracurricular activities with the children, which consist of arts & crafts, fun workshops, playing learning games on the computers and free play. We also create an interesting learning environment through arts and crafts, cooking, field trips, community service and exposure to different cultures. We hold occasional multi-cultural workshops through volunteers from the community.
