Mission Statement

The Trinitas Foundation was created to give our friends in the community a specific and meaningful way to support Trinitas Regional Medical Center. The Foundation secures contributions, both large and small, to support the Medical Center’s many equipment, capital and service needs. The mission statement for Trinitas Regional Medical Center is: Trinitas Regional Medical Center is a Catholic community teaching hospital sponsored by the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth in partnership with Elizabethtown Healthcare Foundation. At Trinitas Regional Medical Center we dedicate ourselves to God’s healing mission. We strive to provide excellent, compassionate healthcare to the people and communities we serve, including those among us who are poor and vulnerable.

About This Cause

Trinitas Regional Medical Center (TRMC) consistently manages the 2nd-3rd largest charity care program in New Jersey and is one of the state's foremost safety net hospitals. We are the only hospital in Elizabeth, a city where one in four households does not have a car and a reliance on public transportation is prevalent. For many residents, Trinitas is the only healthcare provider available to them. In any given year, over 80% of our patients are on Medicaid, Medicare or Charity Care, meaning they meet the poverty standards set by the US government. It also means that TRMC loses money on the vast majority of our patients, since these reimbursement programs do not fully the cost of their care. Elizabeth has the 10th highest rate of uninsured residents in the state. Over 32,000 people, or over 25% of the population, does not have health insurance. Additionally, Trinitas assists thousands of Newark residents annually, which ranks 13th in New Jersey for uninsured residents. We are a haven for the working poor and impoverished people of our region, who comprise the vast majority of our patient base. Trinitas is also a major center for comprehensive health services for those who live and work in Central New Jersey. TRMC has 554 beds, including the Brother Bonaventure 120 bed long-term care center. TRMC’s Department of Behavioral Health and Psychiatry Department is one of the largest and most respected in NJ. We have distinguished ourselves with our 12 Centers of Excellence and specialized services across the continuum of care. They include: Behavior Health, Cancer Care, Cardiology, the Connie Dwyer Breast Center, the Dialectical Behavior Therapy Institute, Diabetes Management, Maternal and Child Health, Renal Services, Sleep Disorders, Women’s Services and Wound Healing. The medical center typically conducts over 443,000 patient visits each year. Despite the financial challenges we face as a safety net hospital, Trinitas continues to thrive and is well positioned to assist the people of the Greater Elizabeth Region for many years to come. One of the most important ways Trinitas has maintained its strength is through the steadfast support of the many individuals, foundations and corporations that proudly support our work, and most notably by the considerable internal support we enjoy. The Foundation boasts 100% financial participation from its board member and has 916 employee and physician donors. That means 35% of our workforce (and counting) are also donors! Last year they donated $216,000 toward our patient care projects, behavioral health and MRI campaigns, and this was over and above their donations to events. In our most recent Emergency Department campaign, employees and physicians donated over $1 million. Our employees’ generosity toward the hospital is a testament to their faith in our hospital and their dedication to elevating the lifesaving services we provide to the people of our region.
