Mission Statement
Tides Family Services (TFS) is a not-for-profit social services agency focusing on addressing the needs of children at risk. Since its incorporation in 1983, Tides has promoted family preservation and maintenance of youth within their communities through individual, family and group counseling; home visitations; educational and court advocacy as well as the networking of social services. Tides Family Services has helped thousands of individuals since its inception, and today, we work directly with 500 youth and their families each day in the most underserved cities in Rhode Island.
About This Cause
Tides Family Services (TFS) brings over 40 years of expertise in delivering community-based behavioral health services to youth and families in Rhode Island, with a strong focus on collaboration, innovation, and evidence-informed practices. TFS promotes family preservation and maintenance of youth within their communities through individual, family and group counseling; home visitations; educational and court advocacy as well as the networking of social services. As one of the largest providers of children’s behavioral health programming in the state, TFS served 1,524 unique enrollments in FY24, maintaining an 85% success rate in keeping youth in their homes at the time of discharge. Rather than opportunities, the pathways our families navigate often include inequities that lead to dead ends. Through our agency-wide health and wellness initiative, Tides builds detours to help families move past those barriers and stay on track to meet their goals. We meet families where they are at, and we focus on creating a strength-based connection where people feel genuinely cared about. This connection has a direct correlation between stabilization efforts and successful family preservation at the time of case closing due to sustainable lifestyle changes. TFS has significant experience implementing innovative programs targeting youth substance misuse prevention and intervention. For example: 7 Challenges Program: TFS delivers this evidence-based substance use treatment model, focusing on community-based interventions for youth. Functional Family Therapy (FFT): A proven model that TFS employs to address complex family dynamics and reduce risk factors for youth. Children’s Mobile Response and Stabilization Services (MRSS): Launched in 2020, this program has successfully served over 1,000 youth, achieving an 86% success rate in preventing hospitalizations at discharge. Our infrastructure and programming are designed to be delivered in the context of systems theory, engaging families and communities into our work. Our services have been delivered in homes and communities for nearly 40 years, allowing us the opportunity to establish multi-generational relationships within the communities where our clients live. Through its multigenerational community relationships, TFS can create a sustainable pipeline of youth leaders and prevention advocates who will drive the mission of substance misuse prevention. Tides Family Services philosophy and outreach initiatives are centered on positively impacting the social determinants of health, which are crucial for fostering holistic well-being, particularly among youth and families facing behavioral health challenges. TFS strategically addresses these determinants through interconnected factors as we aim to create a supportive environment that promotes sustainable positive health outcomes for all community members.
