About This Cause

The Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy, Inc. (the Conservancy) is a not-for-profit corporation originally formed in 1978 as the Friends of Olmsted Parks; a group founded on a mission to advocate for the preservation and restoration of the Historic Olmsted Park System in Buffalo, NY. The Park System was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, the father of American landscape architecture. The entire system is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In addition to its advocacy mission, since 2004 the Conservancy has been responsible for the maintenance and operations of approximately 850 acres of this park system through a public-private partnership with the City of Buffalo. The Conservancy also manages various historic structures and three golf courses located therein. The Conservancy has approximately 500 members and is supported annually by over 2,000 volunteers.
