Mission Statement

Welcome to the homepage of the Huntington's Disease Society of America, Wisconsin Chapter. We are a chapter of the Huntington's Disease Society of America, a national, not-for-profit voluntary health agency.

About This Cause

The purpose of our chapter is: • To help individuals and their families affected by Huntington's Disease through support and services. • To educate both the public and health care professionals about Huntington's Disease. • To promote and support research directed at discovering therapies to slow the progression and symptoms of the disease and ultimately find a cure for Huntington's Disease. Huntington’s disease is a fatal genetic disorder that causes the progressive breakdown of nerve cells in the brain. It deteriorates a person’s physical and mental abilities, most frequently during their prime working years and currently has no cure. Every child of a parent with HD has a 50/50 chance of inheriting the faulty gene that causes Huntington’s disease. Many describe the symptoms of HD as having ALS, Parkinson’s, and Alzheimer’s diseases – simultaneously. Approximately 30,000 people in the United States are diagnosed with HD, with over 200,000 people at risk. Researches have clearly identified the gene that causes HD and clinical trials are underway for several therapies that could dramatically improve the lives of families affected by HD.
