Mission Statement

The International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children (ICMEC) envisions a world where children can grow up safe from exploitation, abuse, or risk of going missing. Our mission is to advance child protection and safeguard vulnerable children by powering the global search for children who are missing; disrupting the economics and mechanics of commercial child exploitation; training frontline professionals to prevent and respond to cases of child abuse and exploitation.

About This Cause

Today, at any given time, ICMEC is working with dozens of countries committed to building comprehensive national prevention and response to cases of missing children, child abuse, and exploitation. Through research, we identify gaps in international child protection systems that leave children vulnerable. Where gaps exist, we train professionals to protect children from harm and foster conditions for systemic change. When states and countries are ready to commit to systematically protecting children, we serve as their premier go-to expert in the trenches of implementation. We convene regional technology and financial coalitions that are dedicated to keeping children–and corporate platforms—safe. ICMEC’s unique value is in our comprehensive approach and ability to influence and inspire the global community – regardless of country, industry, sector, or profession – toward the common goal of building a safer world for all children. Since our founding, we have worked in 120 countries and trained 60,000+ law enforcement officials, educators, NGO staff, and healthcare professionals worldwide. We have grown ICMEC’s Global Missing Children’s Network to include 31 countries and helped 19 countries to develop Rapid Emergency Child Alert Systems similar to AMBER Alert in the U.S. Since publishing “Child Sexual Abuse Material: Model Legislation & Global Review” in 2006, at least 150 countries refined or implemented new anti-child sexual abuse material laws. Approximately 90% of the U.S. payments industry participates in ICMEC’s U.S Financial Coalition Against Child Sexual Exploitation working to disrupt the economics of commercial child sexual exploitation. Join ICMEC to empower and equip the heroes on the front lines, defending children’s safety and dignity. Together, we can create a safer world for every child.
