About This Cause
Frontiers International Inc. is a national, nonprofit, nonsectarian, service organization. Members include men and women from all segments of our communities: professional, business, religious, political, educational, and lay leaders. The national organization was founded in the 1930’s at a time when other civic service clubs would not admit Black or Brown members. The Mohawk Valley Chapter has been in existence since 1971 and our collective organization focus is addressing challenges that primarily face people of color. Each member provides community leadership, many hours of volunteer service, and lives by our motto of "Service", each and every day. We provide several programs and opportunities for the senior members of our organization and community. Programs are geared toward health, financial literacy, mentoring, and companionship. Free Holiday meals and feeding the sick and shut in is a major and well received contribution to the community that the Senior Club has executed for more the 46 years. The Senior Club is a major financial contributor to the Junior Club. The clubs annual Andy Wertz golf tournament is a major fundraiser that draws participants from all over Central New York. We have developed a vibrant and successful youth program called the Junior Frontiers of the Mohawk Valley. The club formed to enhance leadership, scholarship, citizenship, and community neighborhood service skills in young people starting at the age of 10. Our youth program prepares our students for success by focusing on four pillars: academic excellence, professional development, self-esteem, and civic responsibility. We are the largest totally volunteer 503c youth program in Central New York, We offer college preparation (SAT/ACT), State/Ivy League/HBCU college tours, internships with professionals and local companies, tutoring in conjunction with other educational partners, reading and STEM/ STEAM programs, and a myriad of volunteer opportunities in the community. Students are recognized annually at our Dr. Martin Luther King Day of Service Event and our year end Award Banquet. Scholarships are given to graduating seniors attending college or apprentice programs. We also provide scholarships and other financial support to students enrolled in college and throughout their college years. “Service” to our community is our passion and we strive to increase the quality of life in the Mohawk Valley. With the help of partner organizations and donors, we impacted more than 5,000 individuals and hundreds of families in 2020 by helping to distribute food items and Covid 19 mitigation packages including, but not limited to Covid 19 educational materials, masks, hand sanitizers, antibacterial soaps, touchless door openers, and cleaning supplies. We are a 100% voluntary organization with no employees. Fundraising and donations are key to our existence. Please review our website and consider a donation to help us continue our work.
