Mission Statement
The Market Street Mission is an experienced organization with a proven method of helping to fight alcoholism, drug abuse, hunger, and homelessness in Northern New Jersey. Our mission is to surround our neighbors with God’s love and everything they need to get back on their feet – like food and shelter, counseling and job training, spiritual guidance and Bible study – to live stable, productive lives in our community.
About This Cause
Since 1889, we have been meeting the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of men, women, and children in our community. Through our Emergency Services and addiction recovery Life Change Program, we are able to care for people's immediate needs today and long-term needs for a stable, independent tomorrow. All our services are provided free of charge to our neighbors in need. Our Emergency Services allow us to meet the immediate physical needs of our community. We provide safe overnight shelter for men experiencing homelessness, and we serve daily breakfast and dinner to the community, which is open to men, women, and children. Anyone in need can also come to the Mission for showers, grocery boxes, and vouchers for free clothing, furniture, and household items from our thrift store. We host a Coat Giveaway event each November as well. Our Life Change Program is a Christian long-term addiction recovery curriculum for men. Our residential program is completely free to our clients, no insurance necessary. Residents are encouraged to heal physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually as they rebuild their lives through program components like 12-step work, counseling, work therapy, education and job training, chapel services and Bible studies, and a final phase of life-skills classes. We aim to provide an addiction recovery plan that will guide men in making a life change by giving them the tools they need to maintain long term sobriety and restoring their hope for the future. Along with the Market Street Mission in Morristown, we also have a Jersey Shore Rescue Mission location in Asbury Park that offers similar services like community meals, overnight shelter for men, and a men's addiction recovery Life Change Program. Additionally, we have a Market Street Mission - Sussex County location in Newton. This 14-bed hospitality room provides a safe place to sleep for men experiencing homelessness, as well as referrals to our addiction recovery program in Morristown.
