FRIENDS ASSOCIATION FOR CARE & PROTECTION OF CHILDREN

WEST CHESTER, Pennsylvania, 19380-2515 United States

Mission Statement

Friends Association began offering services in 1822, since then we have grown and evolved in response to the need for programs for homeless families with children. We serve over 400 families annually across our 4 programs: Eviction Prevention Case Resolution (EPCR), Family Shelter, Housing Stability Case Management, and the NIA Program. EPCR provides legal representation combined with tenant rights and responsibility education and housing resource navigation where necessary to households that have been served notic of an eviction filing. Over 90% of households are able to retain thier housing or move directly to more affordable housing without a period of homelessness. Family Shelter provides emergency housing in private apartments to families with children combined with case management and life skills training to assist families in addressing the causes of their homelessness and prepare them to move as quickly as possible to sustainable permanent homes. Providing shelter in private apartments minimizes the trauma of homelessness for both children and adults. Housing stability Case Management provides long-term case management and life skills training to families once they have relocated to new permanent housing, whether from our own shelter, other shelters, or for families relocating through the EPCR Program. Finally, the NIA Program offers supportive housing and services to women returning to the community after a period of incarceration. our goal is to reintegrate women into the community and reconnect them with their children.

About This Cause

Friends Association programs were developed using a housing first model. We focus on the issues each family faces and the skills, education and resources they need to resolve challenges, secure permanent affordable housing, and achieve self-sufficiency. Case managers work with each family to develop a service plan based on their needs and goals. They serve as a coach and guide as the family uses the service plan as a road map to • Identify solutions to address and resolve issues that caused the homeless episode • develop a timeline to find employment, locate housing, enroll in vocational or education training and accomplish their long-term goals (education, reducing debt, savings plan) • access supplemental benefits from partner agencies (e.g. medical care)
