Mission Statement
The Y is for Youth Development, because we believe that all kids deserve opportunities to discover who they are and what they can achieve. That’s why, through the Y, youth today are cultivating the values, skills and relationships that lead to positive behaviors, better health and educational achievement. The Y is for Healthy Living, improving the nation’s health and well-being. The Y brings families closer together, encourages good health and fosters connections through fitness, sports, fun and shared interests. The Y is for Social Responsibility, giving back and providing support to our neighbors. Whether developing skills or emotional well-being, welcoming and connecting diverse populations or advocating for healthier communities, the Y fosters the care and respect all people need and deserve.
About This Cause
The Harrisburg Area YMCA offers over 230 programs serving a geographic region stretching from Williamstown to Dillsburg and from Perry County to Elizabethtown, over 35,000 people received YMCA services last year. An additional 20,000 participated in YMCA sponsored community events or collaborations with other human service organizations. A partnership of 1,350 volunteers supported by 700 employees allowed the YMCA’s reach to extend throughout our Central Pennsylvania region. The Harrisburg Area YMCA has four branch facilities: Camp Curtin Branch YMCA (CCY), East Shore Branch YMCA (ESY), Northern Dauphin County Branch YMCA (NDCY) and the West Shore Branch YMCA (WSY); 18 Summer Day Camps and 36 School Child Care and Full Day Child Care Sites. For 163 years, the Harrisburg Area YMCA has been proud to help our neighbors learn, grow and thrive. Yet we’re called to do so much more. The greater Harrisburg Community faces new challenges that create a greater need than ever for the work we do every day. We believe our communities can be so much more. Every day, we take on the challenges that will shape our community’s future.—challenges like the academic achievement gap, childhood obesity and the diabetes epidemic. We make our service area stronger by focusing on three priorities: youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
