Mission Statement

The mission of the Women's Resource Center is to help women and girls successfully navigate life’s transitions and inspire others to do the same. By providing resources, tools and support for today, we create hope for tomorrow.

About This Cause

The Women’s Resource Center has been helping women navigate seemingly insurmountable obstacles since 1975—women watching the life they created with their families crumble as their financial stability is pulled out from under them through divorce, illness, and career setbacks. 1) We connect women and girls to our services, to community resources and to supportive groups. We made those connections by phone, email, social media, and in person by word of mouth, helping them to navigate the maze of services to identify those most relevant to their unique circumstances. 2) We provide volunteer, peer, and professional support so that our clients could achieve enhanced self-awareness, increase their self-confidence and social support, experience improvement in mental and emotional well-being, and prepare to take the next step in their journey. 3) We deliver knowledge, strengthening our clients’ skills in communication, conflict resolution, problem solving, decision making, coping and resilience, career planning and goal setting. Who We Serve: WRC serves a highly diverse group of women and girls throughout the 5-county Philadelphia region. 72% of the women who come to WRC for help earn $25,000 or less annually, and the average age is 56. Recent Accomplishments: Key accomplishments over the past several years include the following: 400% growth in Resource Coordination & Counseling Services, the program area that has been in greatest demand with an ongoing waiting list, with 100% of clients reporting progress in at least 3 outcome indicators. 40% growth in schools participating in the Girls Lead program with 98% of participants reporting improvement in communication skills, 96% reporting improvement in their conflict resolution skills, and 94% reporting improvement in decision-making and problem solving. 748 women were able to access pro bono legal consultation with help of more than 40 volunteer attorneys over the past three years. 3,426 Helpline calls and emails were served by a team of 20 Helpline volunteers and WRC's part-time Helpline Coordinator Debbie Bell, over the past 3 years.
