Mission Statement
West Chester Area Senior Center, located in the Borough of West Chester, PA, began in 1975 serving its Mission to "Enrich the lives of our senior neighbors through friendship, activities, education, and nourishment." WCASC serves almost 2,000 per year and offers daily meals and nutrition programs, exercise for all levels, health and wellness programs and activities, educational programs, intergenerational activities, a computer lab and classes, and numerous other enrichment programs including crafts, languages, book stores, band, social clubs, and volunteering, in addition to a year-round "Corner Cabinet" food distribution program and countless other year-round opportunities. We also help guide seniors with local community resources and appropriate programs to assist them in remaining active and independent to the fullest extent possible.
About This Cause
West Chester Area Senior Center began in 1975 and continues its always evolving community service in the Borough of West Chester, PA. "Fast Facts" about WCASC: * WCASC is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity which relies on a large variety of funding sources in order to operate successfully including: Annual Campaign, Grants, Foundations (both private and corporate), individual donors, corporate partners, limited government funding, United Way funding, and very limited program fees as most programs are offered free or, in very few cases, for a very small fee. * 2,000 served annually * 260,000 Meals distributed in the last 2 years * 76% of our seniors attending share breakfast and/or lunch here * 400 Volunteers help our very small staff throughout the year * 44,000+ hours of volunteer service are performed annually * 3,500+ Program Sessions are offered each year * 12,000+ hours of Health & Wellness are offered yearly * 1,000 hours of Exercise Classes are conducted annually * 39% of our seniors voluntarily self report at or below 110% of the poverty level * WCASC partners with numerous community organizations including: Chester County Dept. of Aging, Chester County Food Bank, AARP, United Way of Chester County, West Chester University, Villanova University, Immaculata University, Penn Medicine Chester County Hospital, Lions & Rotary Clubs, Chester County Family Academy, and many more! * 600 Free Tax Forms were filed through our AARP partnership just last year alone * Our "Corner Cabinet" Food Distribution Center opened in 2020 and distributed 260,000 meals over the last 2 years. Registered seniors are able to shop for free weekly groceries including fresh produce, milk, eggs, and other dairy items, frozen prepared meals, a wide variety of proteins and meats, and both shelf stable and perishable goods along with household necessities and even pet food! * Additionally, we operate 2 "Second Reading" Book Stores in West Chester which are 99% Volunteer-managed. * We offer many special events throughout the year with our major fundraising event held on the first Saturday of November each year.
