Mission Statement
Home of the Sparrow partners with women in Chester County, Pennsylvania facing homelessness to secure housing and achieve long-term stability.
About This Cause
Believing all individuals deserve safe, affordable housing, our vision is a future where all women have access to the tools, resources, and services they need to lead hopeful, independent and productive lives. As the only organization dedicated solely to assisting single women and single mothers in Chester County, our programs and services are designed to reach the following objectives: 1) Participating women maintain their housing; 2) Participating women progress towards stability; 3) Participating women achieve a long-term housing solution. Since our founding, we’ve helped over 13,000 women and children avoid the trauma of homelessness. Services are delivered via trauma-informed case management practices and include Eviction Prevention, Supportive Housing, Pre-Senior Bridge Housing, Shared Housing, Re-entry for justice-involved women, and Graduate Support Services for women who have achieved stable housing. Our innovative approach begins before a woman is homeless, mitigating devastating, long-lasting effects. Once homeless, women lose educational and economic opportunities, are more likely to experience chronic medical and behavioral health issues, and their children are more likely to become homeless themselves as adults, creating a cycle of generational homelessness. Our comprehensive services support dedicated progress towards long-term economic self-sufficiency and housing stability. Women are provided the financial, logistical, and emotional support needed to achieve their goals, including steps towards increasing their income, like job training and education programs, budgeting to reduce expenses, and acquiring advanced educational certifications. Annually, we serve over 900 Chester County women and children, predominately from the County’s most under-resourced communities.
