Mission Statement
Founded in 1996, Camp Dreamcatcher provides free therapeutic and educational programs to HIV/AIDS impacted youth. We offer the only therapeutic based camp program for HIV/AIDS impacted youth on the east coast.
About This Cause
Programs include a one-week Therapeutic Camp, weekend Retreats, reunion events, Mentoring programs, a college scholarship program, a holiday Adopt-a-Family Program and HIV/AIDS education, training and community outreach. Camp Dreamcatcher has served 5,200 Youth over the past twenty-one years. 98% of the children served are from low income households and only 15% have access to affordable Therapeutic programs in their own communities. Program Goals: 1. To provide Therapeutic programs to aid in the expression of feelings and promote physical and emotional healing. Programs include psychotherapy, art and music therapy, yoga, massage, acupuncture, equine Mindfulness Based Therapy, wilderness therapy and writing workshops. 100 programs will be offered during the week. 2. To provide educational programs that focus on issues common amongst HIV/AIDS impacted youth. Topics include HIV disclosure and stigma, depression, bullying, puberty education, addiction, abuse, suicidal ideation, conflict resolution, leadership and team building. 45 programs will be offered during the week. 3. To provide 3 1/2 days of HIV/AIDS and Diversity Training to counselors. 4. To give kids a chance to have fun - just like any other kids!! 145 recreational programs will be offered including swimming, fishing, basketball, canoeing, go-cart racing, arts/crafts, concerts, dancing and much more!! The camp week is in August and over 240 counselors, medical personnel, professionals and community members volunteer during the week. 130 HIV/AIDS impacted kids between the ages of 5-17 will attend the week of camp.
