Mission Statement
Hope Afloat USA is Philadelphia and Pennsylvania's FIRST breast cancer survivor dragon boat racing team led by a board of breast cancer survivors.
About This Cause
Mission Hope Afloat USA's mission is to help survivors of breast cancer make positive emotional, spiritual, and physical changes in their lives through the ancient sport of dragon boat racing. We encourage survivors, regardless of their age or athletic ability, to "awaken the dragon within" by providing them with hope, support, camaraderie, and adventure. Vision Statement We envision a world where breast cancer no longer exists – a world full of hope, dreams, strength, and courage filled with strong, beautiful women. About Us • Incorporated in 2001 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization • Began competitive racing in 2002 • Joined the Eastern Region Dragon Boat Association (ERDBA) in 2003 • Retains a coach with Olympic coaching credentials • Has over 50 members from throughout the tri-state Philadelphia metro area • Governed by a board of members (all breast cancer survivors) elected by the membership • Self-financed through membership dues, donations, grants, fundraising events and business sponsorships • Provides year-round training and practice sessions • Holds practice sessions on the Schuylkill River • Competes in 5-6 regional competitions each year on US East Coast • A United Way beneficiary • Proud participant of the AmazonSmile Foundation • Founding Member of Schuylkill Paddlers Inc.
