About This Cause

Special Children's Charities (the “Organization”) is a non-profit organization founded in 1969 to fund special recreation programs administered by the Chicago Park District, which later expanded to Chicago Public Schools and other agencies throughout the city. Special Children's Charities currently develops and funds a wide range of recreational, educational and social activities that encourage physical and mental health for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, ensuring that all individuals have access to high-quality programming. The Organization raises funds for these programs through special events and grants, and donations from individuals, foundations and corporations and awards annual grants and contracts for programming throughout the City of Chicago primarily in the Chicago Park District and the Chicago Public Schools. The Chicago Park District and other grantees provide the program planning and staffing.
