ADULT LITERACY LEAGUE INC

Winter Park, Florida, 32789 United States

Mission Statement

We educate adults to become self-sufficient members of society and we advocate on behalf of adult and family literacy.

About This Cause

At the Adult Literacy League, we focus on creating a more literate community. Did you know that one in five adults in Central Florida read at or below a 5th grade level? We are working hard to improve these statistics. We do this by offering one-on-one tutoring, English conversation (ESOL) classes, GED prep courses, and adult basic education classes such as math, computer proficiency, and reading. Additionally, we encourage parents to become their child’s first and most important teacher through our family literacy program. Over the course of a year we educate more than 3,000 students and provide nearly 70 weekly drop-in classes in 21 different locations throughout Orange, Osceola, and Seminole counties. Classes offered through the Adult Literacy League are free of charge. All classes are led by volunteer instructors who are dedicated to their students. Our students originally hail from not only the United States, but also Venezuela, Brazil, Haiti, Russia, Vietnam, among many other countries across the globe. Our values of inclusivity, diversity, and a passion for educating others is essential to the success of our organization.
