About This Cause

Founded in 1972, The Arc of the St. Johns provides services to people with intellectual and Developmentally Disabilities (I/DD). Over 285 individuals are in our services. It is our mission to provide the opportunity for hope, growth, and dignity to people with I/DD in our community. Three adult day programs provide meaningful day activities, continuing education, training and social interaction for adults with I/DD. The Adult Day Training programs are located at facilities in St. Augustine and Jacksonville Beach. These programs and activities include computer proficiencies, multi-media arts, culinary and health and wellness, physical education, adult basic education, and multi-diagnosis social rehabilitation. The Therapeutic Learning Center for Children is a charter school for children with special needs, ages 2½ to 5, and provides pre-k education and therapy services at no cost. The TLC has been in service since 1982. The program moved into its new and permanent building in July of 2010. The Community Campus is also a charter school developed especially for young adults ages 18-22 with I/DD and behavioral issues. The curriculum focuses on vocational training and preparation for independent living. The Community Campus program provides services to young men and women in its recently renovated school building in the historic district of old St. Augustine. The school is tuition free. Residential Services are provided in thirteen traditional group homes in comfortable neighborhood settings. Many of our group homes cater to specific needs such as behavioral issues, medical needs, advanced age, and peer groups. The Residential Services Program is in operation around the clock, year round. Transportation Services operates a fleet of 42 vehicles to get the individuals in our services where they need to go. Transport vans bring individuals to participate in Adult Day Programs on a daily basis, return them to their homes, provide rides for off-campus healthcare services, day trips for shopping, bowling, horseback riding and more. Service and maintenance of the fleet is conducted on site at our main campus. Supported Employment, in cooperation with Florida Vocational Rehabilitation Services, provides people with I/DD with job training, a job coach, and helps to secure and maintain employment for those who wish to work. Mental Health and Behavior Management are important objectives for all of the individuals we serve. The Arc of the St. Johns is one of the State’s premier providers of certified and effective mental health and PSR programs. Supported Living Services and In-Home Supports facilitate roommate matching and individual residential opportunities, finding and renting a residence, providing a coach and guidance for people with I/DD who wish to live more independently and in their own homes. The Arc of the St. Johns is a 501c3, not-for-profit organization. The Arc of the St. Johns employees more than 270 men and women. The payroll currently exceeds $7.8 million and delivers more than $50 million in economic impact to the community. (based on 6.5 X circulation factor)
