Mission Statement

One Reel fuels Seattle civic pride through signature experiences that foster growth and development in our community and the arts. Our objective is to increase participation and opportunities for artists and audiences from all backgrounds, and to leave a lasting cultural legacy for future generations.

About This Cause

One Reel is a local, non-profit producer dedicated to presenting music & art events that fuel civic pride through shared experiences that foster growth and development in community and the arts. For nearly 50 years, we have entertained Seattle audiences with a diverse, progressive platform of event programming. In doing so, we have provided more support to local artists, performers, and musicians through paid festival gigs, commissioned works of art, grants, speaker and panel fees, publishing fees and stipends than any other 501c3 arts producer in King County. In 2021, One Reel began publishing PublicDisplay.ART — a bi-monthly, arts-focused tabloid with free distribution throughout the Puget Sound that attracts nearly 60,000 readers every issue. In fact, in 2022, One Reel was honored to receive Governor Inslee’s Art Organization of the Year in Washington State, for our work in publishing a community-supported, arts-focused tabloid that recognizes local artists and celebrates diversity in the arts. And, since it is distributed for free, we are able to put art into the hands of underserved readers throughout the Puget Sound. ART SAVES ME — a program that has supported the works of over 300 hundred artists since the start of the COVID pandemic, through grants, art exhibits (through both online and public gatherings), online hosted mural galleries that document a comprehensive collection of photos documenting the work of street artists in response to COVID and the BLACK LIVES MATTERS movement, streaming events and more. Additionally, One Reel continues to produce one-off events each year through unique music and arts events set against the backdrop of our city. While the pandemic ended One Reel's four decades long run as the producer of BUMBERSHOOT, One Reel has continued to support the event that we had become synonymous with, as an advisor to the City Of Seattle when selecting new producers and through a curated exhibit of our historic Bumbershoot's art and memorabilia collection at Seattle Center when Bumbershoot resumed as an ongoing arts & music festival in 2023. And One Reel remains a valued & engaged community partner and works tirelessly to support Seattle's vibrant music and arts communities.
