Mission Statement

Montera Middle School is a diverse, urban public school in Oakland, CA with 700 students. Montera Middle School aims to provide all students with a supportive environment and rigorous curriculum through which they develop into inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring lifelong learners utilizing their creative talents to help build a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

About This Cause

The primary purpose of the Montera Middle School PTO is to solicit donations to fund enrichment programs for our student body. These programs include Montera’s highly successful music program, sports teams, in addition to a variety of after school classes and free programs not funded by the Oakland Unified School District, such as TechBridge, an after school engineering program for girls. In addition, with COVID, we are supporting all students and teachers in need with basic supplies, technology upgrades, support, and professional development as well as hotspots to ensure smoother learning during this challenging time. Montera, Oakland's second-largest middle school, reflects the diversity and needs of the Oakland school district. Kids feed into Montera from 45 elementary schools across the city. The kids are 38% African American, 22% White, 19% Latino, 10% Asian, and 8% Multiple Ethnicities. 57% of children are eligible for a free or reduced-cost lunch. We are a Title 1 school. In addition to financial contributions, we welcome partnerships with businesses that want to make an important impact or urban public education.
