United Way of Forsyth County brings the community and its resources together to solve problems that no one organization can address alone.
About This Cause
2020-21 was an unprecedented time for our country and our community. With many more families faced with unemployment, possible eviction and hunger due to the pandemic, United Way continued to fund Forsyth County’s most vital education, health, economic mobility and safety net programs, ensuring continuity of services. Programs pivoted quickly to providing services virtually, reformatting their services due to social distancing requirements, and modify program models to address emerging needs. United Way invested in 44 programs and collaborations that aligned with a single focus of increasing individual/household stability by breaking down barriers to self-sufficiency while ensuring a strong safety net of basic needs services. Over 6,000 nights of shelter were provided, including to women and children in imminent danger of abuse 94 % of students receiving support through United Way maintained or improved their reading and math scores over the summer Through United Way’s support of Workforce Development and Career Engagement programs over 700 job seekers improved skills for finding work In the Fall of 2020 United Way funded 8 remote learning sites for students in underserved and historically marginalized Forsyth County neighborhoods with limited access to consistent internet and providing them needed academic support provided by tutors and credentialed staff More than 8,500 children and adults received counseling, treatment, screenings, and referrals through mental health programs supported by United Way Over $2.8 million in refunds were returned to over 2,300 lower income residents through free tax preparation services.
