Mission Statement
Founded in 1973, The Marcus Foster Educational Institute is a Bay Area hub for design thinking and purveyor of strategic organizational change modeled after the theoretical framework of Dr. Foster, the first African American Superintendent of schools in Oakland Unified School District. Our mission is to advance systemic change and education equity for all.
About This Cause
The Marcus Foster Education Fund is a compassionate, collaborative organization seeking to help realize transformative educational equity for all. Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, our goal is systemic change through convening, data collection, policy and advocacy, intervention design, implementation oversight and evaluation for student improvements at scale. The MFEI Scholarship Program is supported by corporations, community organizations and individuals, to help economically disadvantaged youth who are often the first in their family to enter college. For districts and college access programs, the 4Phases of Financial Aid has been used with great success and is truly systemic financial inclusion! MFEI guides district leadership, local nonprofits and companies focused on improving diversity and inclusion through a series of design sessions to review data, deliberate and chart root causes; collectively crafting and building a culture of continuous improvement based on data and actual results of interventions. The Dr. Marcus A Foster Fellowship at UC Berkeley, supports students across a broad range of majors, interested in research and multi-disciplinary collaboration that will remodel educational systems through a lens of equity. Another partnership with the California Medicine Scholars Program is leading the way to develop a statewide diverse primary care physician pipeline in order to improve health outcomes in our most vulnerable communities. Whether working with educational institutions or corporations, it is critical for the success of the work that a network have relevant data to determine what processes will work best given the history, conditions and circumstances it currently faces and the issues it seeks to impact. Our Data Driven Consulting services provide trusted analysis and support the testing and implementation of the change idea with all members of the community.
