Mission Statement

Since 1974, Volunteer Fairfax (VF) has built the civic infrastructure to help nonprofits engage, train, and mobilize volunteers. Our mission is to lead, connect, and mobilize people and resources to build capacity for stronger communities.

About This Cause

Pre-pandemic, VF attracted close to 14,000 volunteers yearly serving more than 41,000 hours to perform a wide array of activities ranging from supporting the social service agencies that feed, clothe, and house those who are living in poverty, to assisting during times of crisis such as COVID-19. VF’s programs engage volunteers seeking one-time service options best suited for youth and busy professionals to community-wide days of service to those 55 and older who may have time for long-term volunteer projects. Our overarching goals are to increase the impact of volunteers as nonprofit capacity builders, and to collaborate with stakeholders to intentionally consider Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion+ (DEI+) in the delivery of programs and services. VF will continue its leadership role post-pandemic to support all vulnerable populations, including 200,000 low-income families, children, older adults, the food insecure, the homeless, and immigrant communities through our 650+ nonprofit partners. VF is exploring how volunteerism can evolve from counting volunteers and service hours to measuring transformative impact. By leveraging tools such as surveying, training, and technology, VF is moving to the next level as a civic engagement innovator.
