Mission Statement

The Museum of Contemporary Art Arlington is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit contemporary art museum that enriches community life by connecting the public with contemporary art and artists through exhibitions, education and public programs, and artist residencies.

About This Cause

Through its mission as a non-collecting museum, MoCA Arlington: ● organizes and presents exhibitions of local, regional, national, and international artists, ● offers high-quality education camps, classes, and workshops for all ages, ● organizes and presents free public programs connecting communities with contemporary art and artists, and ● offers studio space and cohort activities for artists in a formal artist-in-residence program. Founded in 1974 by a group of local contemporary artists, and previously known as the Arlington Arts Center, the museum moved into its current facility, a County-owned historic school building, in 1976. Twenty-five years later, the organization completed a capital campaign to expand the facility, and in 2024, the museum opened its second location, a retail space at Amazon’s HQ2, launching its 50th anniversary year.
