About This Cause

* The signature program of the Dallas Bar Foundation is the Sarah T. Hughes Diversity Scholarship program for minority students. Often, minority students do not have the financial resources to attend law school. The purpose of the scholarship is to remove the financial barrier preventing minority students from pursuing their dream of becoming a lawyer. The goal of the scholarship program is to diversify the legal profession in our community. * The Collins Clerkships provide a paid six-week summer internship for diversity law students to work in public sector positions such as at the Supreme Court of Texas, Fifth District Court of Appeals at Dallas; 14th and 168th Civil District Courts; Dallas County District Attorney's Office; Dallas County Public Defender's Office; City Attorney's Office. * Grants are awarded to the Dallas Bar Association High School Mock Trial program and programs such as the Dallas Urban Debate Alliance which encourage high school students to pursue the study of law. Both these programs serve as a pipeline for diversity in the legal profession. * The Stephen Philbin Award for Excellence in Legal Reporting is awarded annually to journalists in Texas. It is the only such award in Texas that recognizes excellent work of journalists in legal reporting. * Grants are awarded to non-profit agencies that provided important legal representation and legal aid to the underserved. Dallas Court Appointed Special Advocates and Genesis Women's Shelter are examples of non-profits that have been awarded grants.
