Mission Statement
For more than 100 years, Sarah Heinz House has provided safe, quality afterschool and summer programs for area youth. Today, we serve more than 3,000 area kids annually through our membership programs and community outreach initiatives. Our mission is simple: to empower all kids, especially those who need us the most, to Laugh, Learn and Lead.
About This Cause
Located on Pittsburgh's North Side, Sarah Heinz House provides more than 100 affordable afterschool and summer programs for kids, ages PreK-18 years old, including robotics, dance, gymnastics, media production classes, swimming, sustainable design, sports leagues, homework help and life skills development. With an emphasis on character, leadership and service, we provide new opportunities for kids to dream big, discover their talents, and succeed. Our Healthy Choices for Life program promotes nutrition and physical fitness where kids learn how to make good decisions and stay engaged in their school work and in their communities. As part of this effort, all kids in our program receive free meals and snacks every day, regardless of family income. Our Leadership Development Club offers teens the ability to mentor our younger members and serve the community with volunteer and fundraising projects. They also can gain valuable job experience by working as program assistants and camp counselors within our program. Our overnight summer camp, located approximately 30 miles northwest of Pittsburgh, provides urban youth with outdoor adventures and the chance to develop important life skills, lasting memories, and lifelong friendships. We also offer adult fitness memberships and senior fitness classes in our state-of-the-art gymnasium, weight room, and indoor pool.
