Mission Statement
The Squirrel Hill Urban Coalition (SHUC) is made up of people just like you--we're your neighbors down the street and around the corner. We look for ways to improve and sustain our community, and strengthen ties to one another. By sharing information and working together, we aim to preserve, improve and celebrate our beloved Squirrel Hill. Come join us! We hope to see you at one of our upcoming neighborhood meetings or community events
About This Cause
Established in 1972, the Squirrel Hill Urban Coalition is a non-profit registered 501(c)(3) community organization dedicated to preserving, improving and celebrating the quality of life in Pittsburgh’s 14th Ward. Powered by volunteers, committees provide leadership to our community by studying, debating, and advocating positions on issues affecting our neighborhood’s vitality. For forty-three years, the Coalition has been an active and important link in the community. It has served as a sounding board for new ideas, as well as a “watchdog” in the areas of public safety, community bonding and relations, education, residential quality, business district development and improvement, and parks and open space. With its focus on the quality of life in the 14th Ward, SHUC continues to monitor activities and future developments in the community through a range of standing committees. Some of our current projects include the Squirrel Hill Night Markets, Lunar New Year in Pgh celebrations, Forward-Murray Gateway improvements, Squirrel Hill Litter Patrol. We are deeply involved with the city, encouraging the Wightman Park Renovation project as well as the new Schenley Park First Tee Golfcourse Clubhouse and Learning Center. We proudly publish the free quarterly, original content Squirrel Hill Magazine, celebrating its 10th and anniversary this year--connecting and strengthening our neighborhood, one story at a time!
