Mission Statement
Genesis of Pittsburgh is a social service agency dedicated to providing programs and services to pregnant women, children and adoptive families.
About This Cause
Genesis of Pittsburgh consist of 7 programs housed in Bellevue, PA, Avalon, PA and Washington PA Genesis House - A maternity residential program located in Bellevue, PA, providing self-help and a home-like environment to pregnant women in need of shelter; which is the only residence of its kind in southwestern Pennsylvania. Genesis House is home to up to 8 pregnant, homeless women over the age of 18. While at the house residents receive counseling, work on life skills, attend doctor's appointments and take parenting and child birth classes. If a resident has not completed high school it is mandatory that they continue their high school education. Genesis Centers. Community outreach centers located in Washington and Allegheny counties that provide free maternity and infant clothing, diapers, formula, baby equipment and essentials. Any woman who is pregnant or has a child under the age of one can walk in, not appointment necessary, and receive needed supplies. Learning Centers - Also located in Washington and Allegheny county are educational centers offering free classes to help pregnant women and their partners achieve a healthy childbirth and successful parenting in a supportive environment. Students can earn a new car seat, crib, mattress and other baby items by attending classes. Mobile Education Program - This is our Learning Center on wheels. Our instructors go to areas of the city where pregnant women may not have access to transportation to one of our centers. The Grandfamily Program - Located in Allegheny County this is an emergency clothing pantry for those raising relatives due to the opioid crisis. Adoption Services - For couples with love in their hearts and a deep desire to provide a home and a family to children in need of both. Birth mothers are assisted in making an adoption plan for what they want for their baby and receive counseling.
