About This Cause
Ross/West View Emergency Medical Services Authority is a non-profit (501c3) organization. We provide Emergency and Non-Emergency Medical Care, Wheelchair Van, and Rescue Services. Our organization relies heavily upon donations from citizens and businesses within our response area to support our mission. Ross West View EMS teams up with the Ross Township Police Bicycle Unit to provide a Bicycle Rodeo to the community at large. The goal of the Bicycle Rodeo is to empower young cyclists with a minimal set of skills for on-road riding and to teach them a small subset of the rules of the road sufficient to keep them safe. Our Bike Rodeo consist of a bicycle safety clinic featuring bike safety inspections (and optionally quick tune-ups), and a safety lecture about the rules of the road (10 to 15 minutes). This is followed by a ride on a miniature "chalk street" course set up in a parking lot where young cyclists are shown where and how to apply the rules. We also do Helmet fittings and have a drawing to give away usually 2 to 3 bikes and helmets. In addition, the children’s bikes are inspected before they begin and anything that needs fixed, within reason, is done by the Police Officers in the bike unit. They have been trained in bicycle maintenance. The main focus of a bike rodeo is Cycling Safety for young cyclists, age’s kindergarten to 14 or so.
