Mission Statement
Greene County United Way's mission is is to meet our community's needs through leadership, partnership, and individual growth opportunities for a better Greene County. Our vision is to live in a diverse and thriving community where each person has the opportunity to reach their full potential.
About This Cause
The United Way changes lives throughout Greene County by identifying community needs and financially supporting the services that meet those needs to provide results for our residents. These programs offer solutions to critical county issues, including supporting seniors, health and wellness, emergency assistance and investing in the education of our youth. United Way is also dedicated to serving our community through the support of local nonprofit organizations by connecting them with the citizens of Greene County. As a way to work with both groups, GCUW has created our Virtual Volunteer Center - a place where agencies can post volunteer opportunities and volunteers can find a ways to help that fit their passion and skills. The Greene County Nonprofit Partnership, or GCNPP, was founded by five local nonprofit agencies - Greene County United Way, Greene County CASA, Corner Cupboard Food Bank, The Way Community Center of Greene County, and Blueprints - in order to mobilize our charitable community to better support Greene County as a whole. GCNPP's mission is a collaboration of nonprofit agencies devoted to the betterment of Greene County and its citizens through the engagement of our charitable organizations. In today's world, every county needs a group of community-oriented leaders that have the ability, motivation, and foresight to seize beneficial opportunities for our hometown and its residents. GCUW understands that with our county's rich network of for-profit businesses and nonprofit organizations, there are many recreational, cultural, and civic leadership opportunities. Inspire Greene - a Community Builder and Leadership Course created by GCUW - combines an understanding of board governance principals with active leadership experiences to bring like-minded individuals together for truly bold results. And, finally, GCUW's Stuff the Bus program began in 2002, as the United Way Board of Directors identified families who were struggling to purchase back-to-school supplies. Stuff the Bus was a success right from the start. School supplies collected are distributed to students in Greene County school districts as well as Head Start and Intermediate Unit programs. Over the last 20 years, through generous donations of supplies and our sponsor, First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Greene County, Greene County has helped thousands of low income families, who otherwise may not have been able to afford materials and go to school prepared to succeed.
