Mission Statement

The mission of the Lawrence County Historical Society is to preserve the history of Lawrence County, Pennsylvania, by preserving historic sites, acquiring and maintaining artifacts and materials, cultivating and fostering community interest in local history and its preservation, educating the community on the importance of its history, and maintaining an association of individuals interested in these purposes.

About This Cause

The Lawrence County Historical Society preserves the history of Lawrence County, Pennsylvania, by preserving historic sites, acquiring and maintaining artifacts and materials, cultivating and fostering community interest in local history and its preservation, educating the community on the importance of its history, and maintaining an association of individuals interested in these purposes. The Society offers workshops relating to the history of Lawrence County, its citizens, and ethnic groups. It also performs research for people interested in the their ancestors and property. The Society also stores digital images of well-known county individuals and their families, buildings and other properties, and artifacts related to its history. The Society also hosts displays of historical events of Western Pennsylvania as well as those for Lawrence County. The Society operates an annual banquet to honor athletes from Lawrence County. The Society is especially active in educating students by hosting a county-wide Lawrence County Trivia Contest for students in junior and senior high school. The Society also provides financial assistance to high school students for a Civil War seminar and trip to Gettysburg.
