About This Cause

What began as a literary circle in 1942 has grown into an award-winning American Star Library and community hub. Located on the first floor of the Green Tree Municipal Center, the library is a great place to read, think, dream, work and more. The library offers services and resources for people of all ages, including: • Dynamic and quality programming for children including storytimes, crafts, themed events, after school enrichment and a popular summer reading program. • Programming for adults including a monthly book club, language courses, computer instruction, health and wellness workshops, local author visits, and many other guest speakers that reflect the needs of the community and trends in popular culture. • E-resources such as e-books, e-audio, e-video, e-magazines, and databases, all free of charge to download and to use. • The Nasri Language Library, a collection of materials that promote language acquisition and development, including English as a Second Language (ESL) materials, language learning resources in both print and audio and foreign language fiction. • Free public Wi-Fi and public access computers with internet, Microsoft Office software and fee-based printing. • Copying, faxing and scanning services. As long as you have an active card issued by a public library in Allegheny County, your card will work at the Green Tree Public Library. If you do not already have a current library card in Allegheny County, you can obtain one by visiting the library’s circulation desk, filling out a form and present personal identification and verification of your current address. Because the public libraries in Allegheny County share resources, cardholders may borrow materials at any of the 70+ libraries in the county and return them to any library in the county. The Green Tree Library has an active and enthusiastic Library Board of Directors. The objective of the Board is to assure free access to unbiased information to the community of Green Tree, in addition to promoting library use and services in the community. Monthly library board meetings are open to the public and take place on the third Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. in the Poplar Room. The library affords many opportunities to make a difference in the community. If you’d like to contribute, please consider: • Joining the Friends of the Green Tree Public Library, a service organization committed to helping the library. Members work actively to make the library a better place in a variety of ways including community advocacy, volunteering, fundraising, and enhancing the library experience for all patrons. The Friends’ primary fundraiser each year is the annual Used Book Sale, which is held each fall. • Volunteering. The library is always receptive to those adults and teens who can donate some of their time or their talent to help out. • Donating. Your support of the library allows us to continue providing services and resources to the residents of Allegheny County and beyond. As a donor, you recognize that libraries are the thread that holds together the fabric of our community. Libraries support literacy and education, gather and provide access to information, support the democratic process, enhance quality of life and build community. Please visit www.greentreelibrary.org to learn more. The library hours are: Monday – Thursday: 10 a.m. – 9 p.m. Friday & Saturday: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Sunday: closed
