Mission Statement
The Humane Society of Westmoreland County's mission is to love, protect and care for animal lives through rescue, shelter and adoption without regard to age, appearance or physical needs. The Humane Society exists to heal the sick and injured; rescue the lost and abandoned; and give new hope to neglected animals so that they may discover their destiny and potential upon the earth. The Humane Society of Westmoreland County believes that humans and animals live in a shared environment where each has its rightful place and purpose. Animals deserve equal consideration, care and respect the same as we have for other living beings and creations of nature. We will have a loving, helpful and kind attitude toward our animal friends in every way possible, appreciate the many gifts that they have to give us and attempt to learn what they have to teach us as a part of our contribution to the world. "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated." -Mahatma Ghandi
About This Cause
The Humane Society of Westmoreland County is a one of a kind no-kill animal shelter, assisting in the rescue and adoption of homeless, neglected and abused animals in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania and surrounding areas. Animals are taken into the shelter as strays, humane cases and transfers from other high-kill shelters, provided veterinary care and adopted out into forever homes. The shelter offers many other programs to the community including a Humane Police Officer Department, Low Cost veterinary programs and Volunteering/Public Outreach opportunities. The Humane Society employs three Humane Agents, who investigate cases of suspected animal abuse and neglect, and are able to seize those in danger. The Humane Department has grown to accommodate the ever increasing incidence of animal abuse and neglect. Low cost spay and neuter and clinics are offered to the community 5 days a week. Low cost spay and neuter programs make it possible for everyone in the public to have their pets spayed and neutered, which decreases the unwanted pet population and additionally helps assure pets live longer, healthier lives. Low cost veterinary clinics and appointments are also available to the public, to assure no animals suffer needlessly due to monetary constraints of owners. The Humane Society offers volunteering, community service and outreach programs to youth and scout troops, which helps instill an understanding of the nature of animal rescue and the importance of humane treatment of animals, proper veterinary care, and the increased need for support from the community in all aspects to continue our mission of rescue and adoption. The Humane Society of Westmoreland County will continue to grow and expand in the future and the need for funding and support of the community will increase accordingly. Help support the Humane Society of Westmoreland County, and help support the continued efforts in helping homeless, abused and neglected animals find forever homes.
